I am testing the Phottix Odin ODS feature with the Mettle600AD strobe. My goal is to achieve high shutter speeds using an affordable strobe.
Here is an explanation of the Phottix Odin ODS technology.
Basically, it lets you calibrate your pre-shutter flash delay. The goal is to have the flash duration burn long enough to cover the frame during an exposure higher than X-Sync speed.
Interestingly, less expensive strobes tend to have a longer flash duration which produces better results using this method than more expensive strobes with a shorter flash duration.
The bottom line is that using the Canon 5D Mark III with the Mettle600AD strobe, an ODS setting of 2.5 achieves the best results.
